We all forget things from time to time, but with a memory loss disease or age, it becomes part of an everyday routine. At Castle Home Care Services, we always try to help people maintain their independence that’s why we have put together some tips to help with forgetfulness.
- Medication. It’s very likely that your loved one needs to regularly take medication for one or several conditions. Forgetting to take medication, or not remembering if they took it so they double up is the leading cause of why some patients end up going to the hospital. In order to prevent this, use pill planners, get medication pre-packed, and get some help from a loved one or caregiver to help stay organised.
- Cooking. If your loved one loves to cook, there’s no need to stop doing it. You only need to be sure there’s another person in the room when this happens so this friend or caregiver can remind them to turn off the gas/electric each time a meal is done.
- Checklists. Writing things down in a calendar or making checklists are a great way to remind your loved one what needs to be done. It will also give them a sense of accomplishment at the end of the day when they look back at all they have done.
- Keep documents safe. Make time to locate any important document your loved one might have and need in the future. It’s always a good idea to make copies to not risk them being lost or forgotten.
We hope these tips and tricks help you and your loved one. If you need extra help and you’re looking for a home care service in Richmondshire, North Yorkshire give us a call today on 01748 883344 to learn more about the services we provide.
